Heathrow Terminal 5: The Complete British Airways Passenger Guide
Everything you need to know about Heathrow Terminal 5 — drop-off, check-in, security, lounges and where your driver will meet you on arrival.
Heathrow Terminal 5 is British Airways' global hub and Heathrow's largest, busiest terminal. If you're flying BA, you'll use T5 for almost every route. Here's a complete guide.
Getting to Terminal 5
T5 is accessed via a dedicated spur road off the M4/M25 (Junction 14 West). It is not on the same forecourt as T2/T3 — your driver will follow the signed T5 approach from the M4.
Drop-off: The drop-off zone is on the forecourt directly outside T5 departures on the upper level. Follow the road signs to T5 Departures.
Check-In at T5
BA operates a large self-service check-in zone with bag drops, plus staffed check-in desks. The check-in area is on the main departures level. For those with only hand luggage, you can proceed directly to security.
Club World (Business Class): Dedicated check-in desks to the left of the main check-in area, with significantly shorter queues.
T5 Security
T5 security has multiple lanes. The main security zone is on the first floor, accessed after check-in. Queues can be substantial during morning bank holiday peaks — budget 30–40 minutes for security during busy periods.
Fast Track: Available to Club World, First and Executive Club Gold/Silver members. Access to Fast Track significantly reduces security time.
Terminal 5 — T5A, T5B, T5C
T5 has three connected buildings:
- **T5A (Main):** Check-in, security, most gates, all retail and restaurants - **T5B:** Reached via underground shuttle from T5A (5 minutes). Domestic and some European gates. - **T5C:** Reached via shuttle from T5A. Additional European and long-haul gates.
Check your gate carefully. A gate in T5C requires 15–20 minutes additional transit time from T5A security.
BA Lounges at T5
- **Galleries South:** Business class lounge, large and well-stocked - **Galleries First:** First class lounge, quieter and more luxurious - **Concorde Room:** First class passengers only, the most exclusive lounge at Heathrow
T5 Arrivals — Meeting Your Driver
Arrivals at T5 are on the ground floor. After clearing immigration and collecting luggage, you exit through the arrivals doors into the main arrivals hall. Your driver will be waiting with a name board clearly visible.
Important: The walk from the gate to arrivals in T5 can be lengthy — 20–30 minutes including the transit from T5B or T5C, immigration and baggage. Don't be concerned if it takes this long; your driver will be there.
