Travelling with Pets: Airport Transfers and What to Know

Can you bring pets in an airport taxi? We explain our policy and the regulations around travelling with animals to UK airports.

Pet travel questions are more common than you might expect. Whether you're transporting a family dog in a carrier or wondering about service animals, here's what you need to know.

Our Pet Policy

We accept small pets travelling in appropriate carriers (cages or approved travel crates) in our vehicles. This applies to cats, small dogs, and similar.

Requirements: - The pet must be in a fully enclosed, secure carrier at all times - Please inform us at the time of booking that you're travelling with a pet - For larger dogs, please enquire — we can accommodate some larger breeds in appropriate vehicles but this must be confirmed in advance

Assistance and Service Dogs

Assistance dogs (guide dogs, hearing dogs, medical alert dogs) are always accepted in any of our vehicles under UK law. There is no need to request permission — simply advise us at booking so we can note it.

Flying with Pets: UK Airport Rules

It's important to note that UK airports and airlines have strict and varied rules about flying with animals. Our job is to get you to the airport — what happens at check-in is governed by the airline.

Key points: - Most airlines allow small pets in the cabin in an approved carrier, at an additional fee (typically £50–100 per sector) - Larger dogs must travel as cargo/hold baggage — this requires advance booking with the airline and meets specific health documentation requirements - Some routes (particularly non-EU) have strict animal import requirements at the destination — research thoroughly before booking

Pet Passports

If you're travelling with a pet to/from the EU, your pet requires an AHC (Animal Health Certificate), issued by a vet in the 10 days before travel. This replaced the old pet passport system for travel from the UK post-Brexit.

Quarantine Considerations

The UK has strict biosecurity rules for returning pets. Ensure your pet's documentation is complete and up-to-date — failed documentation means quarantine at the owner's expense.

Booking with a Pet

Call us on 01293 972472 when booking with a pet, rather than booking online, so we can confirm the right vehicle and note the animal. Most bookings with small animals in carriers are straightforward to accommodate.
